Christmas and New Year in Tuscany

Christmas time can be the perfect period to spend a holiday in Tuscany. This is a truly magical time of the year; from the charm of a presepio (Nativity scene) to the grand procession of the Magi in Florence, from the crowded town centers illuminated with Christmas lights to the quiet and silent country hillsides and medieval hamlets.

All the beautiful art towns and hill top villages across Tuscany become even more fascinating, especially at night, when everything shines with a million lights.

Walking along the tiny streets of San Gimignano in winter and especially at Christmas time, will make you feel the real festive atmosphere.

San Gimignano can be the ideal solution to pass your festivities; you can enjoy relaxing moments far from the crowds, while being near to major art towns like Florence or Siena, full of special events, Christmas markets, festivals, concerts, and any kind of spectacle.

In and near San Gimignano you may also visit many beautiful monasteries, churches, and many other magical places where the spirit of Christmas will be all around you.

There’s particularly a place where you can experience this magical atmosphere that we highly recommend visiting: it’s the little and suggestive Pieve di Cellole, located just few minutes from San Gimignano. It’s an ancient romanesque church which recalls the wonderful Abbey of Sant’Antimo in Montalcino. The church is surrounded by scenic trees and from the garden on the back you get lovely views over San Gimignano and its towers.

You’ll be really spoilt for choices as to what to do during this festive time! You can relax in our comfortable hotel and then go sightseeing in Florence or Siena, or visit the many interesting sights in the immediate surroundings of San Gimignano.

Staying at our Hotel l’Antico Pozzowill also give you the possibility to take advantage of one of our special festivities’ offers, like New Year in San Gimignano, with a fantastic and unforgettable Tuscan dinner to welcome the 2012!
